Our committee
Our committee of experienced figures from across the trade union, climate, Palestine solidarity and anti-war movements have been overseeing our support for Green and left-wing independent candidates in key seats as well as socialist Labour MPs.
- Hilary Schan is the former Co-Chair of Momentum and independent councillor in Worthing. A key figure on the Labour left, Hilary was elected as a Labour councillor but resigned from the Party in May 2024 after eight years as a Labour member and resigned from Momentum after two years as Co-Chair.
- Dr Carl Walker is a chartered psychologist with over 25 years’ experience in activism, community engagement, community co-production of wellbeing services and infrastructure and local authority strategic development. He also led on the launch of Psychologists Against Austerity and stood in two parliamentary elections for the National Health Action Party on an anti-NHS privatisation platform. Carl was elected the Deputy Leader of Worthing Council, where he was the strategic lead for communities and young people portfolio on the council, including covering participatory democracy, community co-production of services, cost of living, community-led infrastructure development and community wealth building. He left the Labour Party in May 2024 to serve his community as an independent councillor in Worthing.
- Amna Abdullatif, independent councillor for Ardwick, Central Manchester and the first Arab Muslim woman elected to Manchester City Council. Amna was elected as a Labour councillor but resigned from the Party in October 2023 saying she had been left with “no choice other than to resign” due to “Keir Starmer and a number of his senior frontbench making horrifying comments about Israel having the right to withhold fuel, water, food and electricity from the 2.2 million Palestinians trapped in Gaza, effectively endorsing a war crime”
